Not what you'd think.  Not what I thought it would be.  It is not the food, you can eat anything.  It isn't the training.  That takes up 10 minutes a day.  Or the logging.  That is what makes it work and they have an amazing database.

But everything has to be done on a phone.  This is my particular Achilles heel.  I hate writing on a phone, typing on a phone, attempting to create syntax and meaning with a phone keyboard.

This is my first real age block.  A phone is not a good platform for lengthy entries of any kind and Noom has the core of their system, coach interaction and group chat, is all only on a phone.  So my participation will be pretty limited.

We'll see over time if that really matters.  The first thing they want us to do in group chat is "Drop your favorite emoji to indicate you understand the guidelines".

Is there a Get off my Lawn emoji?

A guy I used to know but today only "know of" has bunches of tech stuff and told me at one time that he does his cell phone texting via a standard [computer] keyboard, so he can type at the speed of light one-two-three and it's easy-peasy as well as fast. As he's absolutely not someone who would sit there typing or multi-tapping (which is what I have to do to enter text on my cell phone ), I believe what he says even though we're no longer on speaking terms of even the most casual sort.

It seems to me that if you want to do the Noom thing and participate as fully as possible, this might be something to look into.

On the other hand (and this isn't a judgment, please believe this), it's said that if you want to do a thing you'll find a way, and if you don't, really, you'll find an excuse. 'Life coach" motivational speaker Tony Robbins calls those things we don't do or don't achieve or don't complete, "Impotent goals," ones that don't inspire or motivate us sufficiently.
Mayhap Noom is one of those, for you; time will tell and either way, no judgment, at least not from me.

Yeah, there is a way to blue tooth a kb that might work. I'll have to look into it.

Time will tell.

And, $16 later, I've got a kb on the way. Thanks.

Just now figured out what kb stands for (D'oh!)

"Blue tooth" as a noun I recognize only as language; as a verb, it might as well be Venusian.

If I have an extra ordinary keyboard (we have several sitting around), could that be used, or does it take a special keyboard to "blue tooth" (v.t. ) it?
I'm interested, now, simply because this would make texting, at least from home, a danged sight easier for me, and of course faster, too.

Er...if you don't mind explaining, that is?

Blue Tooth (capitalized, it is a patented product) is a short range wireless system (protocol) that allows communication between phone or computer and any of a variety of peripherals. Speakers, headsets, keyboards, mouse, etc. All phones have it now and all laptops and some PCs. It works like any wireless but is short range and basically substitutes for a wired connection. Pretty much any of these (https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=jelly+Multi-Device+Bluetooth+Keyboard+%26+Mouse+Combo&ref=nb_sb_noss_2) will do. Not all wireless have BT.

Many thanks for the link, and holy wow, far more choices than I'd have imagined!

Hope all works out well for you with the Noom participation and that the keyboard addition (?) makes it easier and more enjoyable.

I have slowly been coming around to using a phone as a primary input device. I wasn't born and raised on them either so it doesn't come naturally to me, but i know lots of people write freakin' epics on their phones, so this journey i have been trying to do the same. Basically, write up my travel strories on my phone instead of how i used to in a small notepad with a pen. (Less weight to not carry a notebook.) I'm getting used to it. I do find that i want to go back on my computer afterwards so i can edit it "properly" before posting, which is usually to do stuff like break up paragraphs better or identify repeated words and try change it up a bit. TLDR, i think phones are probably about as good as a notepad and pen for putting together drafts, but still annoying to do the final copy on.

I still don't really like phones for short communication like text chat, but then i don't much like like short communication in the first place. I find i want to go back and change what i wrote to fix spelling or whatever, and it's too fiddly on a phone. I guess i should just not care.

I think it is a generational thing. And a reading glasses thing. I don't like small screen (and I've got a Pixel 3XL which is one of the big ones). Definitely understand the weight issue on your bike, though. Every ounce counts.

I really hate that the whole world seems to be gravitating toward smartphones for everything. They just reopened a major concert venue near me, and — not that I want to attend a concert with thousands of other people, even at an outdoor venue — I am no longer allowed to attend concerts there because I do not have a smartphone on which to show my ticket. No paper tickets allowed, "to reduce potential exposure to Covid."

Uh huh. It's annoying.

I guess it is a sign of how much I’ve adapted that I do pretty much all of my lj-ing from the phone these days. Yes, all of my long posts too.

Not even tablet entry? Marginally better than a phone,

Or maybe a BT keyboard? I've got a couple around here that I use. The one I use for the phone folds by thirds. Almost full size, but not quite.

Yeah, I've got a cheap BT coming tomorrow that should solve the problem.

And soon as I typed that last to you I realized I had a Jelly Combo KB in my closet that, on inspection, does BT Android. Tested and it works so I cancelled the Amazon order and am in business.

Keyboards help, but it's the constricted real estate that gets me. Do not want.

Turns out the keyboard I bought a while back when I thought I was going to need two PC's at once has Android BT connection. So I'm typing this on it now. Much better but, yeah, I agree. It is a generational thing, I guess. I was amazed at the number of people who did their taxes on their phone. Brave New World.

day late and not sure why but don't you have an old cromebook in the closet? you should be able to run any android app on a chromebook. being confined to a phone would make me nuts
