The end of the world will come with significantly less fanfare than this two day spot of cold weather.  I'd list all the ways I've been informed but War and Peace has already set the standard for length of composition and I don't want to fiddle.  But a summary:

At the bottom of my screen I've got an exclamation point.  I don't need to look to know that Microsoft is warning me.

We have signs in the neighborhood telling us to drip our water and I've got an explanation in my my news feed of why I need to do this in Texas at a little below freezing when I did not in Maine during the -20 (-28) degrees two week stretch we had when I lived there (Texas water piping is near the surface).

I've got Atmos, of course, my gas supplier telling me everything is fine but set my house at 68 (20) degrees or below.  Already done long ago.

I've got PEC, our electric coop, telling me everything is fine and we'll likely have enough power.

I've got our governor who has basically done nothing but jabber since last year and ensured that no significant improvement was undertaken to the power grid while he's in charge.  TEXAS DOESN'T NEED IMPROVEMENT.  IT IS ALREADY PERFECT!

I've got Spectrum telling me it's going to be freezing but we're here for you.

And maybe a thousand TV news and weather channels.

And, of course, Alexa has told me twice.

The entire state is suffering from PTSD.  We MIGHT get snow.  It MIGHT get icy.  It will be chilly for a day.

I need some prayer hands here.

Finished Wallander last night.  Episode 1 brooding to the last episode of Alzheimer's.  Not cheery but well done.  Probably will pick up Young Wallander tonight.

Listening to Chris Knopf's You're Dead.  I've read about 3/4 of his stuff and liked all of it.  Unfortunately he's older than me.

Still Kindling Leviathan Falls.

You seem to be duly warned, lol. I saw a video this morning by Charlie Berens (comedian) giving Midwest advice to Texans.

Oh, thank you so much. That is the best 18 seconds I've spent in a while.

You're welcome. And yes, I have used a bank card to scrape my windows.

Hugs and prayers! I used to live in TX so I get it, and I now live in AL which isn't any better, but is not expected to get this particular round of bad weather.

My sister informed me she'd filled up her bathtub with water and my niece told me school had been cancelled due to possible ice. I sent a screen shot of the weather here. Our high was 7. It was 4 degrees on the screen shot. We're not likely to get above zero in the next couple of days. A bit of preparation by Texas would have been nice.

Half of it dropped here in NM already. You'll be fine ;)

Possible snow? We are finally out of our record-breaking cold spell (with a near record dump of snow on one day in there). Now we are gearing up for a “multi-day snow event” that is likely to include some freezing rain because it is relatively warm. Sure, our infrastructure is set up for it, but all you get from me is jazz hands, Texas.

Many years ago there was a winter storm in Atlanta on a school day. It caught them by surprise and they had no way to send the children home. Everyone stayed at the schools all night. It was a highly publicized political disaster the result of which is that schools all across the country no longer take any chances.

I think we're nearly out of the precipitation already. A little ice, a very little snow. Now it is just cold for a couple of days.

We had a similar situation in St Paul a couple of years ago. Buses didn't get kids home for hours. Of course, the storm dumped a foot of snow versus the possibility of ice.
