Still warming

It will be a nice day today with temps in the mid 50's.  I'm holding off for another hour, I think, to go walk with Zoe.   The agenda after walk and should exercises will be to make some onion soup to go with the NY Times no knead bread I've got prepping on the counter.  I might run up to the store to buy a piece of asiago to grate into the bread and into the soup.  

Otherwise today is quiet.  I'll have to finish cleaning the ice off walk and drive where the sun never hits this time of year but there's not much.

A busy (for me) week with something scheduled on every day.  Dog Ranch and Physical Therapy graduation and our monthly breakfast networking meeting.  Friday is empty actually so I'll be able to recover some.  We'll be getting ready for a trip to Port Aransas for our anniversary/Valentine's Day.  The preparation will be somewhat chaotic as we are taking both dogs.  We have a nice house rental near to the beach and downtown.  I don't think we'll do many restaurants but the house has a full kitchen and we'll be able to order and pick up.

Watching: some of the Olympics, now watching two versions of Cowboy BeBop — interesting world I was never aware of.  Reminds me of Astro Boy I watched a few (like maybe 60) years ago.

I've been watching anime for more than twenty years now and Cowboy Bebop was my gateway drug (I saw the (anime) movie version at a film festival). In NZ we're too small to make much of our own content so are steeped in UK, US and Australian content - that's great for learning about other Western cultures, but it's also been so fascinating becoming familiar with a non-Western cultural form. Anime is so amazingly varied (the sky's the limit subject- wise when you only have to draw it), and I love the way they can use what to Western eyes is a simple cartoon to express very complex emotions and drama. And they can mix comedy and drama together really effectively in a way you rarely see in Western output.

Anime in my experience has mostly been been the purview of kids at least in the U.S. But kids grow up and take it with them. Johnny Quest and Astro Boy are the closest I've gotten with the latter being more true anime. I've become a fan of graphic novel film adaptations beginning with 'Heavy Metal' and then 'Sin City' but the Japanese specific versions have eluded me until now.

I'm finishing the lave version of Cowboy BeBop since I already started it and really am enjoying it. But it has not been renewed so no need to hang on. I'll move on to the anime version. Nice to have them both.
