Fish and Chips with the Aussies

@susandennis and I randomly ran into an Aussie / Kiwi bar yesterday. It is a kind of eclectic place compared to the chain fern bars we have where I live. The building started out as a branch of the Seattle Library and has a wonderful kind of ramshackle feel to it. The bartender was great and the atmosphere convinced us to stay for an early dinner of fish and chips. Great fun:

Susan seems to think she isn't photogenic. This proves her wrong and maybe her new hairdresser contributed to the cause !

Ha, you saying eclectic and ramshackle makes me realise that's what makes our local places so different from the American chains. Glad you enjoyed our local hospitality! So sad that so many locally owned places have disappeared from the US. I've always wanted to zigzag across the US visiting places like locally owned diners, and I hope it's not already too late. Good work on the scissors - Susan's hair looks great!

They are around but fading. Ray Kroc figured out that people like predictability above all else and ran with it, creating the franchise food industry. Some people resisted and still do but like the guy standing in front of the Tiananmen Square, they were successful for a while but ultimately not effective. So one by one (and during Covid times a lot more at once) they are gone. We don't have vary many one offs. Seattle has more.
