Wonka and Dan
Dec. 19th, 2023 12:09We went to see Wonka yesterday and I really liked it. I was a fan of the original and this one was set up as kind of a prequel. And I think they pulled it off. It was fun and musical and frequently a tribute and it looked like the people who were in it were having fun and it was a great cast headed by someone I really like, Timothée Chalamet. I'm a long time fan of Dune and he plays the lead in the most recent screen adaptation and is perfect for the role. It was fun to see him do something completely different as I wait for the second of the Dune movies to come out. And it was also nice to see the usual British cast members, Olivia Coleman and friends. I hope the movie does well. It would be well deserved.
And now for something completely different. I was logging my first dog walk completion today when one of the other volunteers came around the corner in tears. After a bit I found out that Dan, a good old boy hound, had died. Just shortly before. He was apparently fine last night but napped into the unknown this morning. He was old and when I walked him last week I knew he did not have that much longer. Dogs go downhill so quickly. But he was a great hound who you always knew was around by his singing voice.

He was, I think, in a lot of arthritic pain and it was time.
Meanwhile, this is what I found when I got there this morning:

One thing that is good and bad about this job is I go out from 8-10 year round. In the hot summer and cold winter, we're outside with the dogs. Most of the time it is really good for me to have a couple of hours outside. This morning it was a bit chilly and frosty. The Pyrenees LOVED it as did the huskies.
Duke and Duchess were both in great form today.
I got a great shot of the three legged Duke:

And caught Duchess in mid slurp:

By the time I left it was just lovely out.
Which leads me to my two henchdogs who want me to take them out now. So I best get at it.

Date: 2023-12-20 19:22 (UTC)And, yeah. I've read Dune two or three times and the following maybe four books before I flamed out. So I loved the first movie. My wife went into it cold with only an outline from me. Of course she didn't pick up on much but the movie is so beautiful that it stands even without the complete plot. We have Apple + so we watched it back at home and she got more of the background since she could say 'STOP!' and have me explain.
I watched it on my own a couple of months ago and we'll likely have a refresher watch before number II.
It is so well done. And I think they are going to have a third before Timothee gets too old.
