Eclipse

Our driveway is near the center of the eclipse coming on the 8th of April.  We will not see it.  We will be on a plane between Jacksonville, FL and Austin returning from the Springing the Blues festival.  I'd make the same decision again.  Three days of blues on the beach beats 10 minutes of no sun.  But FOMO is strong.  

Central Texas is in an eclipse frenzy. Several towns have declared emergencies in advance of expected millions of people who will be coming to this area.  News is in my stream every day.  About a year ago I bought half a dozen eclipse glasses knowing that the price would go up.  

We interviewed our dog sitter a couple of days ago.  She's a work at home woman who is going to be perfect to take care of the dogs.  I said something to her asking what she had planned for the eclipse.  She had no idea what I was talking about.  She consciously doesn't pay attention to the news.

Which leads to a ton of thoughts.  I only need her to take care of the dogs so no big deal.  But, wow.  I can not imagine being that insular.

Anyone need eclipse glasses?

No, thank you on the glasses. Re: the frenzy--Haven't people ever seen a solar eclipse before?! I have, and I'm glad I can say I saw one, but I don't remember such a hoopla over it.

A total is not so often. Next chance in the US is in 20 years. There was a great 'mostly' eclipse maybe 8 years ago but this is the first full one that is crossing where we live in as far back as I can remember.

Allan ordered eclipse glasses and they came and they are just one round two-inch disc per person, which is disappointing. His dad had some cool ones for us when we went to Georgia last eclipse, but somehow Allan's asking his sister to send us two of them has not resulted in good eclipse glasses appearing in the mail. So maybe we could use two pair of yours, if they're regular ones with two eye coverings. I could pay you for them and for postage.

I've got you covered. They sent three extra cardboard glasses. They are like normal eclipse glasses but disposable and easy to mail. Send me your address and I'll pop them in the mail today.

Eclipse glasses are almost impossible to find here, and Niagara Falls has declared a state of emergency. School is cancelled in my city because of the risk kids might look up while going home or catching the school bus (and being home potentially unsupervised is somehow better in our risk-averse society). People are weird.
