I survived my day
Oct. 16th, 2025 08:49But first, a Beaux picture. He is such a happy boy:

He is lying at my feet next to my desk right now.
Yesterday started off with a couple of hours of pickleball. It was fun. Half were people I knew from the tennis center and half were people I'd not met. So, a good group. I played a couple of good games and a couple of bad ones. And ran around for two hours. Typical day on the courts. I enjoy playing inside when it is too hot but miss playing outside in the air and wind and sunshine. It is nice to get away from tennis players who constantly whine about PB players and nice to have it so close to our house and nice to have the courts more accessible.
I bought into a year's worth of pickleball paying too much but it will be a good year of playing. I've got more court access (30 passes per month each of which are worth 2 hours on the court) than I can use but it means I can get out there all I want and can go on weekends when the courts are empty and practice with the ball machine.
Yesterday turned out to be much better than it could have been. After PB I had my annual Medicare 'is he still alive?' visit with the doctor. It is a nothing visit intended to assure Medicare that I've still got a pulse and they still need to cover my medical. But the doctor that does it is just a wonderful woman and we always just chat away for half an hour or so filling the required time with everything from how are the kids to Dr Who to Black Mirror and how I'm likely not to die from that stinging pain in the tip of my big toe but if I do then it won't be a problem any longer. My kind of doctor. She also takes care of Dana and if we ever really need help and support she's there for us. She was really helpful when Dana was having her hip infection issues and is just generally a sweet lady.
Late in the afternoon, at 4, I had my 'deep cleaning' for my teeth. It turned out to be much better than I expected. I could not be more happy that I dumped the old dentist and went to this one. The dental assistant that did the work is a pro, really good at her job, and talks just enough to connect without asking questions while her hands are in my mouth. She cleaned my teath for about an hour and a half and nearly none of it was painful. And she was cleaning WAY down the sides of the teeth. A couple of times she put some of the numbing gel where she was working so what would have been painful was not. I'm actually pretty thrilled at their plan, that they have the intention, tools, and ability to keep my teeth in better shape as I get older. I go back in three months for a follow up.
The other thing she did was go over the various attachments to my water pik and what I should be using and where it would be best. And she said that in three months when she can see where I need to do something different we'll discuss what I need to be doing at home to make it better. She already suggested that I be careful about brushing my gums with too much pressure and that she'd rather see some build up than see me filing away what is already disappearing due to age around my gums.
First time anyone has really discussed such with me.
She also took off stains on my teeth that have been there for a couple of decades.
Altogether a productive day.
Today I have absolutely nothing to do. So my plan is to work on Prolific and see if I can make some money.
