I've been shopping periodically, like walking through the grocery store shopping, all year long.  Not as frequently and always with care.  Since Texas got mask serious I've been fairly comfortable doing it.  Last couple of trips have been double masked.

But now I'm likely to get a vaccine soon (really, soon as the wagon train gets to Austin) I've gotten more careful.  With the variants running around and at the same time people seeing the numbers go down and lowing their guards and masks I'm more concerned.  But we still need milk and eggs.  So I finally went to our local HEB site and put together an order.  OK, the driver was coffee.  We're down to one bag of beans and that is scary.

And I figure with nine or so months of practice they should have it down now.  And it is only $5/order to get them to do it.  And those damn shopper carts are way too much in the way when I try to shop so really, just screw it.

Going a step further, Dana is going to pick up the order tomorrow.  It was really an easy thing to do.  They have a great web site and excellent pictures and, of course, I know the store so I know what I'm looking for.  It was all too easy.  Now I've remotely poked some young kid to run around the store and get my stuff and have it ready tomorrow.

Power!!!

I have used Shipt and done an order directly from the grocery store. With Shipt, they let me know if something was out of stock, asked if i had any additional requests, etc. With the grocery store, they had the ability to set each item as 'no substitutions' 'substitute different size but same brand' 'substitute same size but different brand' etc. When I got my order, they had marked three things as not in stock (I suppose its possible but all were things I have never seen out of stock when I've gone), they completely ignored one of my 'substitute different size but same brand' on one of the items and gave me a brand I didn't want, and ignored my 'no substitutions' and not only gave me the wrong brand but a completely different item (I wanted a particular brand and flavor of frozen fruits that I used for my smoothies, and instead they gave me a different brand that had totally different fruit than what I asked for). That was the one and only time I ordered directly from the grocery store.

We are very fortunate to have one of the best grocery store chains in the country, HEB. My experience ordering and picking up was flawless and I can absolutely appreciate all the ways it could go wrong. I've not tried or had to try any of the other options and with an amazing piece of luck, they are building a major store within walking distance of my house. Since the design is post pandemic they are building it with a huge set up for non contact shopping. There will be a large drive through section protected from the weather (which is mostly heat here) so we will be able to order and drive through pick up.
Changing world.
