Failed recall

Last night I received a notice from Hello Fresh saying that onions in one of their meals had been recalled for possibly having salmonella.  We had just finished a nice dinner that contained grilled red onion.  The onions were cooked enough so there was no danger and I felt fine as did Dana so no worries.

This morning I looked at the message again just to see if the one I had was actually in the recall batch.  Here is the relevant line from the message:

If you are in possession of one of these meals from 07/07/2021 to 09/08/2021 please discard.

The message was sent on 10/30.  

Nothing in this was actually attempting to be helpful.  This was a lawyer message, a CYA, a litigation bookmark.  

'See, we did the right thing'.

Every time I hear about cutting funds from U.S. Food and Drug, FDA, Osha, all the rest of the Regan era programs that were gutted I think of this kind of thing and wonder how many people were hurt when it is within our capabilities to prevent the problem.  

Sigh.

Halloween party

Dana is sitting by our front door to the left of this picture

We have a steady stream of families coming up to the front door. Dana is handing out some candy but mostly she's handing out packages of fossils that she has collected and put in plastic bags along with a detailed description of what they are and how old they are. The kids are lined up getting their bag of fossils and running back to their parents to show them. Dana is having the time of her life. I'm inside. Safe.
