Lots of tech
Nov. 16th, 2021 12:44After losing Internet last week (during which Spectrum did a great job replacing possibly bad connections) I decided to do my part and replace my modem. The one I had was three years old and probably working fine. But the standard is Arris and I'd been using a TP Link I had left over in my company supply. Good news was that I found a refurb Arris and received it today. While Dana was away I swapped it out for the TP Link (which is now my closet spare), got Spectrum to change the MAC address and was back up in minutes. Things worked as they should have.
In the olden days before I had a mesh network and when I had a laptop with a network jack in it I'd have just plugged in my laptop to the router and run a firmware update on the modem before bringing up the rest of the network. BUT I've got an EERO mesh network which is so idiot proof it does not allow for modem access, far as I can tell, by the tech, AKA — me.
I wrote a support ticket to EERO to see if there was a way. I can do a hardwire from my PC to the modem but neither of my laptops have a NIC connection. Both are wireless only. I could probably get an adapter or borrow a laptop from my local repair shop friend (who would be happy to lend it to me). But I want to see if EERO can do it first.
The modem is working fine but I'm a great believer in updates for all software and firmware so it is something that I need to verify.
