Hasn't gone away
Dec. 31st, 2022 09:56It has been a couple of weeks now since I got run down by a dog and wrenched my back. All I've done has only reduced the pain by about 40% so I've resigned myself to the idea that I did something structural. Yesterday I did a video call with an urgent care nurse in my Baylor, Scott and White med system. She could not immediately help but wrote up the notes for follow up with my primary care doc who will refer me on. She also suggested I get an x-ray prior to meeting with my doc. She thinks that there is a chance I fractured something.
Yuck.
And annoying. But I'm starting to think that if this were entirely muscle it would have healed down to a minor annoyance. As it is I have a hard time walking sometimes and am taking way too much Tylenol.
So I've got an appointment on Wednesday and we'll see what goes on from there. If I've fractured something (which the Internet says is likely) there is not much they do. I'll go to physical therapy which is why I was contacting the doc originally. I want to go to PT and talk with someone who knows what the Internet knows but maybe a bit more and can apply it to my 69 year old body.
I'm resigned to not doing any jumping jacks for a while. Fortunately I sleep well and I've discovered that my car is wonderful again. It has heated seats so I go for a drive and have a heating pad on my back. And I found a really good massage therapist who I'm going back to on Monday. I've also got a massage on Friday with another therapist that I scheduled two months ago. And a long hot shower works well too.
It is not like I HAVE to do anything. I can sit around and be sedate and do whatever my PT drill sergeant says I have to do. I'm in the best possible position. I've got to be careful taking care of the dogs and maybe can't do the big ones for a bit. But I can still go and take care of the calm ones who, like me, are old and move slowly.
