Conquered the Mint Monster
May. 21st, 2026 10:22They actually have great support and it is only me and the fact I try to work it out myself that manages to magle things. This time when Dana's phone came I immediately went to their chat support and the whole thing went through the way it is supposed to. The eSim was installed on the new phone evern though the old one would not connect to a service.
Two phones sitting next to each other chatting happily and moving all the info over. It is an amazing thing to see Google Pixel to Pixel transfer. Her old phone was more screwed up that I can begin to say and a bunch of that was also transferred but Google Gemini pointed me to Pixel Launcher and clearing out the settings and cache in that fixed everything I needed to fix.
The rest was just setting it up right. And getting the best case for it. She actually ended up buying a very sensible case that will also carry her cards.
So that was yesterday's win. I still have some setting up to do with her but it is mostly there.
Today I was reading an article that discussed the rapid advancement of Gemini in competition with ChatGPT and Claude. I've had a subscription to ChatGPT for a couple of months now and find it does more than I'll ever use (rather obviously) but thought I'd swing to Gemini and see how that does. So I did that and immediately found a couple of benefits that Gemini does not even discuss but are great for me. First is that, for no additional price, it turned back on my Nest recording so my cams now have history again. Not a huge deal but a nice to have. It was never worth the cost to me but if it is included with Gemini Pro, same price as ChatGPT, then it is definitely nice to have.
And I clicked on something new called Daily Brief where Gemini goes through all things I have in Google and brings it all together. Recent emails, calendar entries, docs, etc and creates a brief listing of what my next couple of weeks hold in store.
Not like I've got much going on but it sorts into categories such as financial and medical and exercise and has links to the various things. It is interesting. I'd have loved having this when I was running a company. Cheap assistant to keep me doing things right.
