The best thing to come out of Covid was the move of the court system, at least the part I'm involved with, to a virtual state.  Before Covid I'd now be driving around the courthouse right now trying to find a parking place.  Once done, through the security, watches, phone, keys, belt (oh, yeah, first of all get dressed to business casual).  Then sit outside the courtroom for half an hour waiting for our turn so I could stand before the judge and give my one minute summation of the status of the children in our case.  It was a labor of love but still a labor.  Now I can shower late, put on a decent shirt, get some coffee while I wait for 11:30 to roll around and have notes on my other screen if there are questions.  And be back home when it is done.

I suspect that we'll remain virtual.  There is really nothing to be gained by a physical presence.  At least I hope so.  The kids will soon be settled so maybe CASA will close out the case anyway but I'm over the trip to the court.

Other than that a quiet day.  Already went for a walk with Zoe.  It was 77 this morning when I got up so going early was kind of important.  As warm as that sounds and as humid as it was there was a nice breeze and it was not too hot to be enjoyable.

No bike today.  I need to take a day off.  Yesterday was an OK ride but my legs felt kind of heavy so I need to give the big muscles a day off.  Maybe tomorrow.

I got some Orange Blossom cooking water yesterday from Amazon so I'm thinking a sweet brioche today.  Never made a brioche before so it should be interesting.

Virtual court is so much better! And we've had over a year now of not having to get a babysitter or have one of us not attend hearings. I'm not sure virtual is great for biological families who might not have access to the necessary technology, but there's still been an in-person option here, with advanced notice to the court.

Oh, yeah, even better for you I'm sure. It would not be hard for the court to have a tech support room for anyone who can't come up with the tech. Maybe that will be the future.

Where was the court located? COVID has changed some things. I know it’s created a HUGE backlog in the Harris County court system.

And good luck with the brioche. I bet it will be tasty!

Downtown Georgetown. Williamson County. I'm sure they are not as backed up as Harris. The only part I'm aware of is my tiny slice and we're just meeting on a routine basis at this point. Progress meetings.

Brioche pix to follow!

I hope the brioche goes well for you!

You've made more bread than I so you probably already know this, but I'll say it just in case: the dough will be way more wet and sticky than regular dough, and won't give nearly as much pushback as a regular dough once it's done being kneaded. Good luck!
Wish I could send you my orange blossom water. No idea what to do with all of it now, lol!

As a studying stenographer, I hope you're right about court going virtual. I've heard a lot of stenographers are thrilled with that development. $15 bucks a screen, or something like that. It'll be years before it matters to me, but I can dream.

It was initially a really dry dough. Couldn't figure it out. As I reached for the recipe to check it had two eggs sitting on it. A CLUE!! So then it was OK and stickier. Still a little drier than I expected. And it just barely doubled. I think my yeast might be getting too old. I've had it a while having bought a larger than usual bag during the period when it was not available. But the proof is in the product and it is just now resting before going into the oven:

Fortunately Orange Blossom water lasts a long time. I'll look for other recipes and share.

Oooh...yeah, that looks VERY dry for brioche. It's wet and sticky up until the very end. Like, just barely shapeable.
I wonder if some measurement was off? It seems odd to me that there were only two eggs, if you have more than one loaf's worth of dough there. For the one loaf I made the recipe called for two eggs, and 1/4c milk.

Anyway, if you try again please share your results! I should have taken a pic of my failed brioche dough, I overworked it and all the butter liquefied and ran out, it was gross lol.

I think many things should remain virtual
