And, yes, I mean you Amazon.

So hard to stay away.  I can feel the pull to my other screen as I write this.  It has already sucked me in for a kitchen spoon holder, a surge protector multiplug, and another of my custom T-shirts.  All three good deals.  The surge protector and T-shirt especially.  I need to reroute and do it right for my PC desk arrangement and this is perfect and, Yay!!, a special just for today.  But in the next 14 minutes.  90% sold out.

And I was wanting another of my custom T-shirts and would have bought at the full price of $25 anyway.  They are light stretchy fabric perfect for my full figure in the summer.  I've got three and now a fourth on the way.  And I may get another while they are cheap.

But that is ALL!!

Although.. I could really use a.....

i'm with ya. i was looking at night stand lamps last week and found three that would work and waited. today, sure enough, one of them had a Prime Day Discount. Bought. So far the other things on my list aren't swept up in the madness so no sale. but... it's early on day 1. I'm sure something will be twittered at me that will cause more purchasing. my amazon immune system is totally non functioning.

I've managed to only look at stuff that's already on my wish lists. I just bought a Christmas present in June. I have officially turned into my mother.

I can only slightly imagine what it's like having access to all of Amazon's stuff with free shipping and more or less immediately. I had a brief taste of it on my last US trip where we were first staying in an Airbnb in central Seattle a short walk from somewhere that had Amazon lockers, and then we moved to an Airbnb slightly further out where we were able to get deliveries. I got a free trial Prime membership and we went crazy. So much fun! It was so cool using the lockers, and then it was equally cool later watching the delivery person get closer on the app. I got to buy all the stuff that normally doesn't offer shipping to NZ, including heavy stuff, and revel in the lack of shipping fees.

At home, it's a totally different, 19th century experience. Amazon orders take around three weeks to get here at the earliest, and shipping ratchets up the cost hugely (it often doubles it or more if it's a Marketplace item). And that's assuming the item you want ships here at all. I can and do get around the non-delivery to NZ using a reshipper, but it adds extra layers of expense.

Having said that, I'm not entirely unhappy about our situation here. I quite like getting orders long after I've forgotten even placing them — it's like getting a present. And to be honest very little of what I order is so critical I can't wait a few weeks for it. The whole thing I think makes me much less likely than I would be in the US to fritter away tons of cash on things I really don't need. It's too expensive to return things, so I have to think very carefully before ordering stuff, which is all to the good. Happy Prime Day!
