About once a year or so I have an issue with my back.  Usually I can account for it but something I did but sometimes it just tightens up and is painful.  Recovery is fortunately a few days away every time and there is not much I can do but take it easy until then.

So that is where I am today and have been for a couple of days now.  Just waiting it out with NSAID's and some light stretching and ice every now and then.  All of the cures don't typically make much difference but it makes me feel like I'm doing something useful.  It will go a way and I'll be fine by Sunday.

Meanwhile I've got a new string trimmer waiting for me at Lowes.  The one I've had for years now finally just started randomly feeding the string as it went along without regard for it being needed or not.  So it would go through a spool of string in no time at all spewing it all over the place.  I thought it was bad string but when I bought some better stuff and the same thing happened I decided it was the trimmer and ordered a new one.  The identical one was under $70 so no complaints.  It will last me another six years and comes with a new battery which will last as long.  I tried to get the exact same one so my current batter will work.  We'll see when I pick it up if I was successful.   I've gone from a riding lawn mower and a gas powered string trimmer to a battery mower and battery trimmer.  From two hours to cut the grass and trim to about 25 minutes.  I LOVED my riding lawn mower but am happy to be able to keep the yard in near perfect condition with less than half an hour's work every couple of weeks.

Ow! Very sorry to hear about the back; at present, I can commiserate (experientially.)

Sounds as though you've got the yard maintenance down!

I am sorry about your back. That sucks. But, while you aren't doing anything, I have a couple of book questions. Have you ever read any Daniel Silva? He has about 20 books with the same guy - British spy. I just read the first one and can't decide if I'm into it or not. Weird. Also. now borrowed from Brooklyn is The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard. I'd never heard of her and she's got a handful of stuff out and is current and so far, The Nothing Man has great promise. It does have two different readers which normally, would be a show stopper for me but in this case, it kind of works. I put her others on hold.

i do hope your back recovers sooner than you expect.

I put Daniel Silva into the 'Authors similar to... " AI and got nearly everyone we read. I've seen his name on books a lot but don't recognize any of the books so somehow I seem to have missed him. But he looks like someone I'd like and the AI says so.

Also nothing about Howard. She has very few names in her universe on 'Authors...' and none that I know.

I've got a list of about thirty right now half of which I'm listening to and half I'm Kindling. As a result of the 'Authors... 'AI I found Deon Mayer again. He's a South African writer who is excellent. I'd read two or three of his books and then lost track so I'm starting over. His detective is Benny Griesel. The usual drunk detective but the stories are set in South Africa and cover a lot of the history of that country during the story and the reader is excellent.

And I'm reading in Kindle 'Everywhere that Mary Went' which is, so far, kind of mediocre but I'm halfway through so I'll finish. Prolific author too so maybe she gets better.

I love that we can still both find prolific authors we've never heard of. I actually had read and been underwhelmed by scottoline BUT that's been forever ago. i'd love to change my mind about her.

Sorry to hear about your back. Mine plays up every so often but not to the point where I can't do anything.

Last time I used a string trimmer it strained my back. Something to think about.

Have you thought about getting a prescription drug of some kind for when your back behaves this way? My partner takes Baclofen when his back acts up (from an old injury), about every six weeks or so.

I actually steal baclofen from my wife. It doesn't seem to do much but no harm either. The problem comes up so seldom and then goes away after a couple of days I don't bother the docs with it.
