Probably the best shot

Probably the best shot

I just got back from the orthodoc.  He said everything looks good.  You can see for yourself.  So frekin' weird.  Unfortunately I get about two minutes with the doc.  Not nearly enough to get any useful information other than 'the x-rays look good but focus on range of motion and worry about strength next time we meet.'

As you can see from the picture I've got pretty good range of motion.

The surgery scar is nearly gone and the only pain is from the muscles he had to go through to insert the ball.  They (mostly the deltoid) are still annoyed but better every day.

I'm amazed every time someone here has body parts replaced. Incredible.

Yeah, it is amazing. I've got a bunch of arthritis and the right hip, left knee and left shoulder cartilage wore down. So I've had three replacements. I'd be in a nursing home otherwise, unable to walk. But I walk a mile and a half every day with Zoe and ride three or four hours a week on my bike when my shoulder allows.

Science kicks ass.

The airport scanner is interesting, though.

Wow, COOL!! X-rays are so cool in general. But to see the ball joint in there is really awesome. Medicine and technology are awesome.

Congrats on the progress with your shoulder. It does not make you look fat, it makes you look muscular. Do what you want with my opinion! :)

It does look kind of beefed up.

I went to the doctor on Thursday. I think I mentioned I've had an issue with my right shoulder for the past 8 months ... since my initial booster shot. It is my doctor's opinion the nurse who injected the first dose of Covid Vaccine (who injected the needle high up on my right arm) did so into the tendon of my rotator cuff. She has prescribed physical therapy when I get back from Texas.

I wonder if I'll be taught exercises similar to the ones you are doing so successfully.

This is so cool to see. Did they have to, like, literally saw off a piece of bone to replace it with the cyborg one? Or was it already broken or something?

I had some issues but nothing broken. You can see in the before picture a couple of pieces of what look like marbles. That is bone that has broken off and was floating around the area. And there was no cartilage left which is why bone was chipping off. Holding myself up on a bike was painful after fifteen minutes or so. Pushups and planks were pretty much impossible. So, nothing broken but pretty screwed up.

They actually saw off the top part of the humerus bone where it fits, or should fit, into the socket and then hammer in the metal replacement so that it is anchored. The object, I think, is to do that without dislodging all the muscles (deltoid and the four muscles that make up the rotator cuff) that are attached to the bone just below the ball. It is pretty amazing. My job now is to increase my range of motion and then rebuild the muscles that have atrophied a bit while they healed. Then I can get back on the bike.

If you were to look at me today not knowing I'd had surgery mid October you would not be able to tell. I can't fully extend in every direction without some pain (my deltoid telling me to slow down) but pretty close.
