Voting today
Feb. 23rd, 2022 10:39Today is a cold day. The temp right now is freezing (freezing in either method of measurement) and is staying that way, not really warming up. I'm not too unhappy about it. We're out of the path of the huge system sweeping across the country to our north so no complaints here. But I think our big outing will be to vote in the primary. I'll be voting Republican since we will be electing all Republicans so I may as well vote in their primary. I went out on the League of Women Voters (thanks, btw, women for providing some intelligence to the system) and ran comparisons on all the candidates and selected the least egregious ones. Least onerous? Not sure which is a better word in this context. Selected the ones that turn my stomach the least anyway.
I disagree with my Congressman, John Carter, and frequently tell him so. I'm on his mailing list and provide feedback whenever he asks. He's actually an old school conservative who, when he was allowed to and still retain his office, at least respectfully referred to the opposition. I always thought I'd like to sit on the porch and have a beer with him. Probably still would. But I disagree with nearly every thing he says. But he is so much better than his competition.
All the rest are about the same. There is a woman running for state Attorney General that I really like so I'm assuming she won't have a chance. But I'm there for her.
Best of all is the platform statements at the end. Voters can vote yes or no on each. The Dems have the same thing and theirs are stupid too. But here is one of my best from the Republican side:
Texas schools should teach students basic knowledge and American exceptionalism and reject Critical Race Theory and other curricula that promote Marxist doctrine and encourage division based on creed, race, or economic status.
Vote yes or no.
It is like a political comic book. 'Hey, check this out, what if we said this....wouldn't that be funny?'.
Way too many things in that statement to unpack. I'm thinking I'll vote 'No' though. Good thing Americans are better than everyone else. Otherwise they might think we're idiots.

Date: 2022-02-23 18:20 (UTC)I just looked at the Dems ballot. For some reason they don't have any planks this year. It is fine with me. Theirs are typically pretty dumb too. But the Republican ones could have been written by Q
