A week before Roland Garros

I've got a week to be productive before tennis takes over. I've been looking forward to the French Open since the Aussies were done. Without paying for the tennis channel my choices are limited to the majors. But, really, that is enough. I'd have to work more to get the tennis channel and then I would not have time to watch.

And soccer today. Austin FC takes on the LA Galaxy. The betting line is with Austin. Fingers crossed. This is their first test with a more comparable team. They've beaten the easier ones.

I've been busy today. Walked Zoe. Rode my bike for an hour. Did laundry and dishes and had a reasonably healthy brunch using up some leftovers. I've still got four or five meals in the refrigerator so this is an economical week. And Dinnerly brings more on Tuesday.

BUT I do have to go to the store today. I'm nearly out of milk and fruit. It's already 93 outside so even garage to store and back will be tough. I've been putting off the store trip for 2 days. Very unlike me.

Off we go.

I am fortunate The Tennis Channel is part of my Comcast package and I watch it daily. I was thrilled with Alcaraz's victories over Nadal and Djokovic in the Mutua Madrid tournament this week. So young! So talented!

We probably have that too (I'm not going to look) but unless/until YouTubeTV pisses me off I'm not going to change back to cable. They've come close and our cable has responded to the competition by becoming a lot better. So things might change.

BUT I would have no life at all if tennis was on all the time.

Meanwhile, yeah, Alcaraz is great and I think all the top players are glad to see their successor apparent. He's got a great future and I suspect that this French Open will be the one that really kicks it off.

I thought Tsisipas would be the heir apparent; but, Alcaraz it soaring faster and higher. I've never quite understood why the American giants Isner and Reilly Opelka didn't become dominant.

The men's tennis is certainly way more interesting now that the Big Three aren't competing/getting older/not in peak form. Would be a shame if they were replaced by "the Big One" (Alcaraz), however -- I like the unpredictability.

One thing about tennis over the years is that there are always three or four within a few matches of being number one. The competition is so intense. Someone will join him.

I just heard Zverev's post match compliments. It was really nice to hear someone so gracious in a time when things have a tendency to go ugly.
