Downton

The picture yesterday about having to buy alcohol will have to go unexplained. I didn't ask. My guess is that that station on the counter, where they serve beer and wine, is for alcohol only and you can't buy just popcorn or whatever unless you buy booze. But the sign works better without understanding it.

We went to Downton Abbey (kind of a Mother's Day present for Dana) and she loved it. I read a rather scathing review today with which I agree. Anything good in the movie is basically a retread of something that was much better the first time. Put the franchise away. It is now nearly 1930 and is only downhill from there.

I'm in heavy debate about seeing Top Gun. It is supposed to be good and the original is such an iconic movie that I kind of want to follow through. It helps that I don't hate Tom Cruise as much as do so many. I enjoy him on the screen and care no more about his personal life than he does of mine. So I might see it. We're fighting the Russians again so why not.

I've got my third session with the U of Chicago guys who are developing software. More moving around a house model fixing routines that aren't quite right. It is fun and pays some pocket change. I'll have accrued another $20 today so I'll cash out.

I finished my Duolingo week long study of Ukrainian and know almost nothing more than I did when I started. It was kind of fun to hear the language spoken slowly but we never got much past nursery level. Mana, Dad, Auntie, and such. Total I spent 70 minutes. They say I can use the login as long as I want so a free Duolingo course in Ukrainian. I'm waffling about whether I should beat my head against that wall more or not. I may try a few days more and see how I feel.

I killed two books in OverDrive in the past two days. One was a rip off of King's 'IT' and the other was just dumb.

So I'm in between Audio books and backed up on Kindle with 'Adrenaline' about half done and 'Head On' by Scalzi on deck.

We're still working our way back through MI-5/Spooks. It is kind of nice not having to think of what to watch next. We've got three more seasons then off to something else.

You may be able to switch to another language, if you'd prefer something else.

You win the prize. I was, indeed, able to switch to Spanish which is a much more comfortable language for me and one I'll at least hear (being in Texas and all).

Don’t you have access to free Duolingo if you are willing to put up with the ads? I am doing German that way, and sometimes switching to Portuguese or Spanish for a review. Occasionally I poke away at Arabic, but I don’t want to get too wrapped up in it while I’m focused on the German.

I wasn't aware of that at all. I wish I lived close enough to have coffee in German with you. I studied it in high school and lived there for two months and remember so much. But I was never really good at it. My vocab sucks. For some reason I just could never get the hang of it.
