I read and listen to a good deal of economy podcasts and news emails.  There are some apolitical people who put them out and lots of good info.  It was a lot more fun last year when so many were saying how bad it was and how we were going into a recession and I knew not only how good it was but how the upward trajectory was going to lead to a booming economy.

When I bought our new bed platform I got the second to the last one in inventory.  They have stopped shippment.  They are all made in China.  So those platforms are not going to be available.  The trucks are not going to be transporting them, the drivers laid off.  The trucking firms are not going to be buying more trucks, the factory workers laid off.  The ships will not be unloading, the doc workers laid off.  The entire pipeline and all the equipment and logistics supporting it are very likely to collapse.  It may have already happened and we've just not yet seen it but there is no idication of relent in this administration so it is almost a certainty.  As is, I think, recession.  Unemployment up, inflation up, Mattress stores closing for lack of inventory.

My question is how it effects me.  I'm glad I got the mattress platform when I did.  I'm considering replacing my matterss itself even though it probably has a year on it still.  But a year from now the price will be much higher.

We have mostly new appliances.  Our cars are really old but we can't really afford to replace them at today's prices anyway.  I've heard about a truck that Bezos is proposing that has zero flair, no radio, manual windows, etc for $20K.  I might be able to do something like that.  If things really go to crap there will be more of those.

I spend a lot of time trying to think of things we can do to be in better shape.  We've got to go to my son't wedding but that will be the last big money trip for a long time.

And we're in pretty good financial shape.  I can't imagine where other people stand.  This time next year will be ugly.

Thank you!

I appreciate that confirmation of something I had expected to see.

It's been beyond bizarre to witness the melting down of Biden's strong economy and it's even more bizarre to contemplate what might lie ahead.

The Slate truck is intriguing. Although you probably for the foreseeable future could also pick up a nice cheap second-hand Teslerrrr. Everything is computer!

My concern with the Slate truck is that they seem to be heavily relying on federal EV subsidies in their projections. From what I've read those are unlikely to escape the orange scythe. That will also affect Tesla, but who cares.
