Of all the days that this neighborhood is alive and interactive, Halloween is by far the exemplar.  Dana took her place in the driveway around 5:30 and the very young ones in strollers with their moms came by.  Not too many but it built up over the course of the evening.  She ran out of candy (we'd have had to take out a second mortgage on the house to buy much more than we did) sometime before 8 and I turned off the outside lights.  There were still loads of kids, the older ones, walking the streets looking for sugar.  There were also a few parents who created halloween trailers and drove around a trailer load of kids through the development to see the decorations.

Here are some screen shots from my Nest Cam:

I'd like to set up a remote camera just to take pictures.  Like a trail cam.  It is nice to not be involved.  I'm security watching to be sure everything is safe but I'd like to get better pictures.  I'll have to think about it some for next year.

Meanwhile Dana gave away about 50 or 60 fossils each in their own bag with labels like:

Texigryphaea

“Devil’s Toenail”

Mesozoic Era

252-66 MYA

that I
printed up for her.  She had nine or so kids who had stopped by at least one year before and were back for another.  One of the kids had been a little short boy first time he got a fossil from her and now is nearly her height.

We live on an ancient sea bed and these fossils are all over the ground if you look.  So she is really creating geologists.  So very cool.

Best of all, no more candy left.
