Maskless neighbor
Aug. 4th, 2021 09:14We've had an empty house next door for a month or so. Dana has been in touch with the owners for the past year through Facebook. They may or may not move down from Boston depending on the week but have been renting it out. Owner's brother or cousin or something is there now doing some repairs. And, of course, Dana kicked off a conversation with him out front. Perfect. It is what she does and I'm all for it. She knows everyone around here.
But then the guy rings the bell to give us a present from the owner for the remote help Dana has rendered. So far, so good. I waved at him at the door and then retreated to my office. He did not have a mask. Nor did Dana. He is younger and maybe vaccinated but Dana and I are in that group the CDC considers vulnerable.
New rules. It is incredibly presumptuous and rude to arrive at someone's door maskless. Neither he nor Dana meant it. Which means when she goes to see her immunocompromised brother later today she will not mean to carry the Delta variant with her. Odds are I'm being dramatic and the odds are miniscule that she will do so. And I'm at all cost an avoider of conflict so did not say anything until the guy had left.
Things have, for the foreseeable future, changed. I feel like instead of a 'No Solicitor' sign we should have a sign saying 'No Mask, No Knock'. And it is not even politics at this point.
